Westerink closes out the tourney with a singles consolation win

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season with an early exit from the USTA/ITA Midwest Championships at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Oct. 23.

After a successful start to the tourney, the Eagles were unable to continue with their hot hand and advance to the final rounds, but there were some successes with this fall classic and other matches for the Eagles during this fall.

"We didn't get as many wins as I would have hoped in this main draw singles, but our doubles was pretty good and we've had a decent fall season," said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. "We will go back to work for our last few days of the fall season and prepare for the team season starting in January."

In the final day of the tourney, Miriam Westerink was able to earn a victory over DePaul's Christina Raymond, 6-2, 6-3, in the main singles draw consolation match. Westerink and teammate Nino Mebuke were unable to prevail over DePaul's No. 31 ranked duo in the main doubles draw, falling 8-4 in the match.

The Eagles season will resume in January when the team travels to West Virginia to take on Marshall on Jan. 14.
