Tennis Upended by No. 53 Marshall

Huntington, W. Va (EMUEagles.com) –The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team had a tough outing in its season-opening match against No. 53 Marshall University, falling 6-1, Friday evening, Jan. 14, in Huntington, W. Va.
The Eagles were unable to rebound from a rough start in doubles, dropping all three matches and falling behind 1-0.
In singles, freshman standout Nino Mebuke was the only member of the Green and White who picked up a win, taking the No. 2 draw in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Celine Donnet and Marcela Rivero each pushed their matches to three sets. Donnet lost a lopsided first set, 6-1, but was able to score a second set victory, 7-6. She was unable to complete the comeback win, dropping the decisive set 8-3. Rivero also lost the first set, won the second set and narrowly lost the final set by a score of 10-7.
The Eagles will be back in competition Saturday, Jan. 15, as they face Morehead State in the final match during the team's stop in Huntington. First swing is set for 1 p.m.
