STRONG START: EMU's 8-5 record this season is the best start since the 2004-05 squad went 9-4 in its first 13 games.
CHECKING THE SERIES WITH WESTERN MICHIGAN: The Eagles and Broncos will meet for the 92nd time when the two teams open their 2009-10 Mid-American Conference seasons Saturday, Jan. 9, in Kalamazoo. WMU holds a 51-40 edge in the series and the Broncos have won the last four consecutive games. EMU's last win was Jan. 12, 2008, when the Eagles recorded an 81-71 victory at home in the Convocation Center.
EMU enters Saturday's game with an 8-5 record after a 59-47 win over Chicago State, Jan. 3. The Broncos are currently 8-5 on the year after capturing an 86-45 win over UM-Dearborn, Jan. 5.
CHASING A GRAND: EMU redshirt junior Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) enters Saturday's, Jan. 9, game at Western Michigan needing just nine points to become just the 27th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. The 6-foot-6 Bowdry has scored 991 points in his 77-game EMU career. He is currently leading the Mid-American Conference in rebounding (10.9) and is second in scoring (19.5).
36th MAC OPENER ON THE ROAD AT WMU: EMU's road opener at WMU, Jan. 9, will mark the beginning of the Eagles' 36th year in the Mid-American Conference.
HOME MAC OPENER JAN. 13: EMU's 2009-10 Mid-American Conference home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 13, versus Toledo.
BLOCK PARTY: Senior Will Cooper (Detroit, Mich.-Pershing-Bridgton Academy) turned in a career best four blocks in the 59-47 win over Chicago State, Jan. 3. The 6-foot-6 redshirt junior has 47 career blocks to rank 15th in the EMU record book in that category.
FIRST FOR THE NEW YEAR: EMU's 59-47 win over Chicago State, Jan. 3, marked the first time in the last three years that the Eagles have opened the new year with a win. Eastern had dropped the previous two first games of a new year, both against Chicago State.
MEDLOCK TURNS 21: EMU senior point guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) turned in the 21st 20+ scoring game of his career with a game-high 24 points in a 72-58 win over Northwood Wednesday, Dec. 30. Medlock had five 20-point efforts as a freshman and sophomore, eight as a junior and has had three this season.
Q ON THE MARK: First-year sophomore guard Quintin Dailey (Las Vegas, Nev.-Bishop Gorman-Sheridan (Wyo.) C.C.) turned in the most productive game of his young career with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in a starting role against Northwood, Dec. 30.
