EAGLES BEGIN FIRST YEAR UNDER ENGLISH: Head Coach Ron English's first season has begun and EMU fans are expecting the Eagles to build on a number of positives that occurred last season. Eastern Michigan returns 45 lettermen, including eight starters to an offense that scored 309 points in 2008. It was the fifth most points scored in a season and the most since 2004 when the Green and White totalled 328 points. EMU returns just as much experience on the defensive side of the ball as eight starters are back on defense.
EMU VS. NORTHWESTERN: Northwestern and Eastern Michigan are meeting for the third time in the series which started in 2006. Northwestern won the first game, 14-6, Sept. 16, 2006, at home in Ryan Field in Evanston, Ill. The teams then matched up Oct. 19, 2007, indoors at Ford Field in Detroit with Northwestern recording a 26-14 victory.
FIRST OF TWO STRAIGHT BIG TEN CONTESTS: EMU will begin a two-game stretch against Big Ten Conference opponents when the Eagles travel to Evanston, Ill. Saturday, Sept. 12, for an 11 a.m. (CT) game against Northwestern. On Sept. 19, the Eagles will travel just seven miles down Washtenaw Avenue to take on the University of Michigan in The Big House. Both games are scheduled for Big Ten Television Network coverage.
