Only 10 foursomes remain for the June 15th event

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Former Eastern Michigan University Assistant Football Coach (1976-77) and University of Michigan Head Football Coach Lloyd Carr will be a featured speaker at the annual E-Gridiron Group Golf Outing in support of EMU Football on June 15th at Eagle Crest Golf Club.

"We are thrilled to have Coach Carr join us once again at EMU," said EMU Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg. "We are all looking forward to hearing about his experiences during the early days of his career as an assistant coach at EMU. We are grateful for his support as we strive to build EMU Football into a championship caliber program under the direction of Ron English."

After spending several years as a high school football coach, Carr's two years at EMU were his first at the collegiate level. As a member of Head Coach Ed Chlebek's staff in 1977 the then-Hurons posted an 8-3 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the Mid-American conference. Carr coached defensive backs in 1976 and linebackers in 1977.

Carr retired from the University of Michigan after the 2007 season and recorded a 122-40 record during his 13 seasons as the Wolverines' head man. His teams won five Big Ten titles and he had an 81-23 Big Ten record during his tenure. Carr's 1997 U-M football team won the national championship.

Another exciting addition to this year's E-Gridiron Group (EGG) Golf Outing is an auction for a chance to add new EMU Head Football Coach Ron English as a fifth member of a foursome. The bidding starts at $250 and closes at noon, June 10. Bids must be submitted along with a copy of your registration form for the tournament. There are also several new sponsorship opportunities, and the dinner will feature an expanded raffle and silent auction with prizes such as autographed athletic memorabilia, exclusive EMU football gear, and gift certificates for area hotels and restaurants.

The cost for this year's EGG Golf Outing is $160 for an individual golfer and $500 per foursome (a savings of $140). Check-in for the tournament begins at 9 a.m. followed by a shotgun start for the scramble format event at 10 am. Tickets for the dinner only portion of the event, and the opportunity to hear Coach Carr and Coach English speak are available for just $25. The post-round reception and dinner starts at approximately 3 p.m. For more information on the event or to register for the outing/dinner, please contact EMU Director of Football Operations Jake Kirkendall at 734.487.3420. Only 10 foursomes remain available for the golf outing.

The EGG was formed in the spring of 2006 with its early focus set on building a leadership level of fund-raising support for EMU football. During the past three years the EGG has helped to raise more than $700,000. This is the largest amount of actual gifts received to date for a non-facility related project by a single group in EMU Athletics history. This has helped to provide the football program with numerous upgrades and is helping to level the playing field with the rest of the Mid-American Conference. Since its official beginning in 2006, the EGG has expanded its goals and objectives to include not only fund-raising, but developing a broader membership program targeted at former football players, which will be expanded to all family and fans of EMU football in the summer of 2009. Nearly 300 former football players have joined since the EGG began. For more information on the E-Gridiron Group, visit www.emueaglesfootball.com.
