Harold Mack Jr. caught the first six passes of his career and finished with 179 yards and two touchdowns while Nick Deveraux recorded his first career two-touchdown game, but it was not enough as the Eastern Michigan University football team fell at Miami University, 44-30, Saturday, Oct. 18, in Oxford, Ohio. With the loss, the Eagles fell to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play while the RedHawks improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the MAC.

How It Happened
The RedHawks struck first with a one-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. The hosts added their second touchdown of the game midway through the second quarter after a 20-play, 66-yard drive ate 11:20 off the clock. The Eagles responded as they engineered a 3-play, 75-yard drive that saw Mack Jr. (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) secure his first collegiate reception as Noah Kim (Centreville, Va./Westfield/Michigan State/Coastal Carolina) found him wide open down the seam for a 51-yard touchdown.

The RedHawks responded with a touchdown drive of their own (21-7) before intercepting a Kim pass. But the EMU defense stood tall on the next drive as Bryce Llewellyn (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral/Charleston Southern) punched the ball loose and Barry Manning (Stone Mountain, Ga./Tucker) jumped on the ball to secure the first takeaway of the game for the Eagles. Eastern went back to work with the Kim-to-Mack Jr. connection getting busy as they hooked up for a 51-yard reception before Kim found Mack Jr. in the end zone for 12-yards and his second score of the game to send the teams to the locker room with EMU down, 21-14.

Following intermission, the RedHawks added one touchdown in the third quarter before scoring a second in the early minutes of the fourth. On the ensuing drive, the Eagles went 3-and-out before an errant snap went out of the back of the end zone for a safety, pushing the MU lead to 37-14. The Eagles responded with a drive that saw Kim connect with Devereaux (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice/Davenport) for 19 yards and then with Porter Rooks (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park/NC State) for the two-point conversion. MU scored again, but the Eagles responded with another Kim-to-Deverauex score, this time from 21 yards out, and a successful two-point pass to Joshua Long (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola/El Camino) to make it 44-30.

Game Notes
» Harold Mack Jr. made his name known as the freshman, who entered the game with no targets and no offensive statistics in his collegiate career, finished the game with six catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns. He is the first 100-yard receiver since both Terry Lockett Jr. (St. Paul, Minn./Minnehaha Academy/Michigan State) and Markus Allen finished with over 100 yards each against Buffalo, Nov. 20, 2024, in Ypsilanti as the duo tallied 188 yards (two touchdowns) and 187 yards (one score), respectively. On a national level, he is just the 11th freshman wide receiver to record a 100+ yard game in the FBS this year, with his 179 yards ranking as the most of those pass catchers, surpassing the 136 yards Andrew Marsh of Michigan had against USC.
» Harold Mack Jr. posted the 142nd 100-yard receiving game in program history with his 179 yards, tying for the 17th-highest total on the list with Gary Matche, who tallied 179 yards on eight receptions against Ball State, Nov. 15, 1969. Additionally, Mack Jr. recorded only the sixth 100-yard game for an EMU player against Miami and the first since Oct. 29, 2016, when Dieuly Aristilde recorded 193 yards on seven grabs with one touchdown.
» Historically, Harold Mack Jr. is the first EMU freshman to record a 100-yard receiving game since Dieuly Aristalde recorded 193 yards against Miami (Oct. 29, 2016) and just the fifth EMU freshman to record a 100+ yard game since 1995. Additionally, he is the fifth EMU freshman receiver to pull down two touchdowns in a game since 1995.
» Harold Mack Jr. recorded a pair of 51-yard receptions from Noah Kim, marking the second and third-longest plays of the season for the Eagles. The longest is the 64-yard scoring pass from Kim to Terry Lockett Jr. at Kentucky.
» Nick Devereaux, who entered the game with one touchdown to his credit, finished with two scores on five grabs and 53 yards. Along with a career-high in scoring, he also recorded a career-best in receptions.
» Noah Kim finished with 309 yards on 20-of-36 passing with four touchdowns and two interceptions. His 309 yards are the second-highest total of his career and his second 300+ yard game after throwing for 330 yards at Kentucky. Additionally, his four passing scores are a career high, surpassing the three he threw for Michigan State, Sept. 9, 2023, against Richmond.
» The four passing touchdowns by Noah Kim marked the most for an EMU quarterback in five seasons. The last time it happened was Nov. 18, 2020, when Preston Hutchinson threw for four against Toledo.
» Barry Manning finished the game with a career-high 12 stops, including four solo tackles, which bettered his previous high of nine against Louisiana earlier in the season. He also forced a fumble for the first time since the game with Central Michigan, Oct. 19, 2024, while posting the third forced fumble of his career.
» Tyrell Martin (Newark, Del./St. Georges Tech/Delaware State) recorded the lone sack of the game for the Eagles, which also stood as his first with the program. The last time he forced a fumble was Oct. 28, 2023, against Howard while playing for Delaware State.
» Noah Patterson (South Point, Ohio/Ironton) recorded his first collegiate tackle in the second quarter. He finished the game with three tackles, including two solo stops.

Historical Notes
» With the loss, the Eagles fell to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in MAC play while the RedHawks improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in league play.
» Eastern fell to 6-21-0 all-time against Miami and slipped to 3-11-0 when playing in Oxford.
