FORT WAYNE
, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan University softball team won both games of a doubleheader at IPFW, winning the first contest, 2-1 in eight innings before coming away with a 10-2 decision in six innings in the nightcap. With the two wins, the Eagles improve to 13-18 on the year.

In the first contest, the Eagles needed extra innings to record the 2-1 win. After giving up a run in the first inning to the Mastodons, junior Jenny Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) hit her seventh home run of the season, knotting the game at 1-1 in the third inning.

The two teams then went scoreless over the next four innings before the Eagles plated a run in the top of the eighth. Senior Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) started the inning off with a single, advancing to second off a Kelsey Greene (Burr Oak, Mich.-Burr Oak) single. Freshman Kaylee Tolliver (Amanda, Ohio-Amanda Clearcreek) then delivered another single, allowing Han to score and give the Eagles the win.

Sophomore Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) went the distance in the circle to pick up her eighth win of the season, moving her record to 8-5. She gave up an unearned run on three hits while striking out six batters. Sophomore Stacie Skodinksi (South Bend, Ind.-Washington), playing in her first game in over two weeks, went 3-for-4 at the plate while McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) was 2-for-4.

The Eagles needed only six innings to record their second win of the day, coming away with a 10-2 win. EMU sprinted out to a 9-0 lead after just three innings, coasting to the 13th win of the year. Russ went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Eagles at the plate, while Greene went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Skodinski and Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) both notched two hits on the afternoon, helping the Eagles rack up 12 hits, compared to just five for IPFW.

Junior pitcher Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Westmont) picked up the win, going 5.1 innings while giving up two unearned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Caro came on in relief, racking up two strikeouts to end the game in the sixth inning.

EMU returns to Mid-American Conference action this weekend, first traveling to Ohio University for a doubleheader. The Eagles and Bobcats will play a doubleheader, Friday, April 3 with first pitch at 1 p.m. The Green and White will then head to Akron for two games, Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
