Eagles Set For Showdown With CMU

EMU will wrap up its regular season in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Saturday, March 14.
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will wrap up its regular season this weekend, as the Eagles head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. for a Mid-American Conference showdown with Central Michigan University, Saturday, March 14.
EAGLE INVITATIONAL RECAP: The Eagles placed fourth overall at the Eagle Invitational, March 7, as the team tallied a 193.375 to finish behind Missouri (195.700), Central Michigan (195.675) and Kent State (195.450).
LOOKING AHEAD: The Eagles look to knock off the best in the conference next weekend, as they travel to Muncie, Ind. for the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championships, March 21. EMU took home second place honors at last year's MAC Championship, recording a team score of 193.800.
COMMON THREADS: Saturday's meet against the Chippewas marks the third time EMU and CMU have met this season. The teams competed against each other at the State of Michigan Classic earlier this season and again last weekend at the Eagle Invitational. EMU assistant coach Andrea Siik is a CMU graduate and a four-time Academic All-American gymnast. Siik helped the Chips to three MAC titles and two NIT Championships during her tenure.
GRIGG HONORED: Junior gymnast Erin Grigg was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week last week for the period ending March 2. Grigg, who carries a 3.97 GPA in exercise science, helped the Eagles to a pair of wins over the Falcons of Seattle Pacific University. Grigg tied a career-best mark on the vault against SPU with a 9.825 to finish first. Other than a second-place finish on the balance beam, Grigg placed first in every event against the Falcons, finishing with an all-around score of 38.975. Against SPU on Friday, Grigg again tied a career-best mark on the vault with a 9.825, finishing with an all-around score of 38.925.
CAREER HIGHS: Two EMU gymnasts carded career best marks last week at the Eagle Invitational, as junior Erin Grigg notched a 9.900 in the floor exercise last week, while Samantha Golden and Kristen Yourick hit a 9.800 and 9.825 on the floor, respectively.
FIRST YEAR SUCCESS: Freshmen Kristen Yourick and Stacie Wood have carded impressive marks all season, as last week's Eagle Invitational was no exception. Yourick carded a 9.825 on the floor, while Wood notched a 9.800 routine in the same event.
VAULTING TO THE TOP: Senior Stefanie James posted a career-best mark on the vault against Seattle Pacific University, Feb. 24, as she carded a 9.800 to help lead the Eagles to victory.
BEAMING WITH CONFIDENCE: Senior Maureen Moss tied her career-best mark on the balance beam against Seattle Pacific University, Feb. 27, as the Gurnee, Ill. native carded a 9.800 to tie her mark that she set at the Washington Invitational earlier this season.
TOUGH COMPETITION: The Eagles have faced several top ranked gymnastics programs this season, including No. 9 Oregon State, No. 13 Missouri, No. 14 Michigan, No. 15 Illinois, No. 22 Washington and No. 25 Kent State.
