EAGLES AND CHIPPEWAS TO MEET FOR THIRD TIME THIS YEAR: Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University will meet for the third time this season as the Eagles, seeded No. 10, will square off against the Chippewas, seeded No. 7, in the first game of the FirstEnergy Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament which begins Tuesday, March 10, in Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. EMU captured both games over the Chippewas this season, taking n 84-77 double-overtime win, Jan. 13, in Ypsilanti, and following that up with a 57-56 win in Mount Pleasant, Feb. 28.

FOUR IN A ROW: The Eagles will enter the 2009 FirstEnergy Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball tournament on a hot streak, winning four straight games heading into Tuesday's, March 10, first-round game against Central Michigan. The Eagles managed to hold on for a 55-53 overtime win at Ball State Sunday, March 8, in the regular-season finale for both clubs. EMU has also defeated Northern Illinois, 75-61, March 4, Central Michigan, 57-56, Feb. 28, and Toledo, 58-49, Feb. 25, in that four-game winning streak. CMU, meanwhile, has won its last two consecutive games, beating Western Michigan, 71-68, Sunday, March 8, and Toledo, 59-44, March 4.

BOWDRY NAMED SECOND-TEAM ALL-MAC: Redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) has been named second-team All-Mid-American Conference for 2008-09 in a vote by the league's 12 head coaches. Bowdry has led the Eagles in scoring all season and enters the FirstEnergy MAC Tournament, March 10-15, with a14.8 scoring average and a 7.2 rebound mark. He is currently ranked seventh in scoring and sixth in rebounding. The 6-foot-6 Bowdry is also ranked 10th in free throw percentage (68.3) and 14th in field goal percentage (44.4).

FOR THE 112th TIME: The 2008-09 season is the 112th of intercollegiate basketball for the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. Eastern played its first season in 1897-98 and split games with Detroit, losing a 2-0 decision before coming back for a 4-0 victory. The 2008-09 season will also be the 35th for the Eagles in the Mid-American Conference. The first year of MAC play for EMU was 1974-75 when the then-Hurons went 12-14 overall and 4-9 in the league. EMU has won three Mid-American Conference titles: 1987-88, 1990-91, and 1995-96, and the Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those years in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98.

EMU AND CMU: EMU and CMU will be meeting for the third time this season with the Eagles winning an 84-77 double-overtime barn-burner at home in the Convocation Center, Jan. 13, in the first game, and adding a 57-56 thriller, Feb. 28, in Mount Pleasant. The Eagles enter the FirstEnergy MAC Tournament on a four-game winning streak. Eastern finished the regular season with an 8-23 overall record and a 6-10 MAC mark, good for a fourth-place finish in the West Division. Eastern continues to be led by the one-two punch of redshirt sophomore foward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) and junior center Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville). Bowdry is averaging 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while Dobbins is at 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.CMU, meanwhile, has an 11-18 overall record and a 7-9 MAC mark, good for a three-way tie for the West Division title. The Chippewas are paced by big man Marcus Van at 12.8 points and 8.4 rebounds while guards Jordan Bitzer and Robbie Harman are at 12.0 ppg and 11.7 ppg respetively.

THE SERIES: EMU and CMU have met 176 times on the hardcourt and Central holds a 92-84 edge in the series. EMU won an 84-77 double-overtime decision earlier this year, Jan. 13, in Ypsilanti. EMU made it a sweep over the Chips with a 57-56 victory, Feb. 28, in Mount Pleasant.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Junior center Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) and redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) continue to climb the EMU career scoring and rebounding lists. Dobbins is the 56th player in school history to reach the 700-point plateau with 768 in his 87-game EMU career. That total ranks 45th in school history and his 396 career rebounds is good for 41st.
Bowdry has scored 725 career points in his 63-game career to rank in a tie for 50th and his 397 rebounds is good for the 40th spot.

BOWDRY SHARES AN HONOR WITH VAN: EMU redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) shared the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honor for the week ending March 8 with CMU big man Marcus Van. Bowdry turned in two double-doubles last week to help lead the Eagles to two wins. Bowdry scored 19 points with 12 rebounds in a 75-61 win over Northern Illinois, March 4, and came back with 13 points and 11 rebounds in a 55-53 overtime win at Ball State, March 8.

LONG-RANGE BEST: EMU's 10 three-point field goals at Bowling Green Sunday, Feb. 15, is a season's best effort for the Eagles.
