Junior gymnast earns second conference scholar athlete award

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Eastern Michigan University junior gymnast Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 2. This marks Grigg's second career conference scholar athlete award.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

Grigg, who carries a 3.97 GPA in exercise science, helped the Eagles to a pair of wins over the Falcons of Seattle Pacific University. Grigg tied a career-best mark on the vault against SPU with a 9.825 to finish first. Other than a second-place finish on the balance beam, Grigg placed first in every event against the Falcons, finishing with an all-around score of 38.975. Against SPU on Friday, Grigg again tied a career-best mark on the vault with a 9.825, finishing with an all-around score of 38.925.
