Five Track Athletes Named Academic All-MAC

Four from the men's squad and one from the women's team earn accolades
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's indoor track and field teams had five student-athletes named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon, March 31.
Earning the honor for the first time in her career was junior Jessica Novakowski (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Western), a criminal justice major with a 3.29 GPA. For the men's team, Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada-Nepean), a public administration master's student with a 3.42 GPA and Oliver Walther (Erfurt, Germany-Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium), a finance major with a 3.92 GPA, earn the award for the second straight year.
First-year recipients on the men's squad include junior Kyle Fortin (Fairview, Mich.-Fairview/CMU), a marketing major with a 3.88 GPA, and sophomore Andrew Meyer (Minster, Ohio-Minster) a physical education major with a 3.72 GPA.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
