Distance Crew Leads Eagles in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C.—The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Reebok Raleigh Relays Friday and Saturday, March 27-28. The Eagles had a strong showing, taking a small group of distance runners to the meet.

David Brent (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's Catholic) and Josh Perrin (Hillsdale, Mich.-Hillsdale) both won their respective events, with Brent finishing first in the 800-meter run, crossing with a time of 1:51.26, while Perrin won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:49.03. Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc) won his section of the steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:08.51.

Neal Naughton (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) finished fourth behind Perrin in the 1,500, running 3:50.69, while Cole Sanseverino (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) was 13th with a time of 3:54.68. Blake Figgins (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) was just off Brent's time in the 800, running 1:52.35, good for 10th.

In the 10,000-meter run Kyle Mena (Portage, Mich.-Portage) was the top Eagle finisher, placing fifth with a time of 30:24.76. Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada-Nepean) crossed with a time of 30:49.58, good for 10th. In the 5,000, the duo of Perrin and Naughton competed well with times of 14:16.02 and 14:29.91, respectively.

The Eagles also competed in the 4x1,500-meter relay, finishing fourth with a time of 15:32.89.

Eastern Michigan will return to action April 4, traveling to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on archrival Central Michigan University.
