Box Score.

OXFORD
, OhioA late rally by the Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell short Saturday afternoon, March 28, at McKie Field in Oxford, Ohio, as the Eagles fell, 7-5, to the Miami University RedHawks in a Mid-American Conference cross-divisional tilt.

The loss drops EMU to 4-21 (0-6 MAC) this season, while the RedHawks improve to 12-10 (3-3 MAC) with the win.

Junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) went 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI for the Eagles, while junior Aaron Crooks (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) went 3-for-4 with one RBI in the loss.

After being hit by Miami's Reece Asbury to start the game, senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) advanced to third on an error and would score on a groundout by Gulliver to put the Eagles ahead, 1-0.

But the RedHawk offense answered in the bottom of the second, as RBI singles by Adam Eaton and Jordan Petraitis led to three runs, giving Miami a 3-1 lead. The RedHawks tacked on one more in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.

Miami tallied another three run inning late in the game, as a two-run homer by Eaton and an EMU error that plated one run gave the RedHawks a 7-1 lead.

Gulliver made it a four-run game in the top of the eighth, as his double to right field scored senior Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) and redshirt freshman Wally Gerbus (Fairfield, Ohio-Stephen T. Baden) to make it a 7-3 game. Gulliver scored later in the inning by an RBI single by sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) to make it a 7-4 game.

EMU pulled within two runs in the top of the ninth, as an RBI single by Crooks scored junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) to make it a 7-5 game, but Jordan Jankowski managed to shut down the EMU rally and seal the win for the RedHawks.

The Eagles are back in action Wednesday, April 1, when they take on the Vikings of Cleveland State University at 4 p.m. at the Pipe Yard in Lorain, Ohio. EMU leads the all-time series over CSU, 9-4, but dropped last year's meeting with the Vikings at Oestrike Stadium, 15-9.
