DAYTON
, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Wright State University, falling to the Raiders 5-1 and 8-7, Tuesday, March 24. With the two losses, EMU moves to 10-15 on the season.

In the first contest, the Eagles struggled offensively, totaling only four hits. The Raiders took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of third before the Eagles knotted the game after the top of the fourth when Kelsey Greene (Burr Oak, Mich.-Burr Oak) singled up the middle. An error by the Raiders allowed Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) to score from first, tying the game at 1-1. WSU put up three in its half of the fourth, putting the game out of reach for the Eagles. Junior Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Westmont) was charged with the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits while fanning six batters.

The Eagles lost a heartbreaker in the second contest of the afternoon, giving up four runs to the Raiders in the bottom of the seventh to give the home team a come-from-behind 8-7 victory. Jenny Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) got the scoring started in the first inning for the Green and White, hitting a three-run home run to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

EMU put up another three runs in the third inning, one run off a Greene single and another two off a WSU throwing error. Wright State matched the Eagles with a three-run inning of its own in the fourth to pull within 6-4.

The Eagles put up another run in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead into the bottom half of the frame. WSU was able to rally, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the final inning to secure the sweep. Hletko was charged with the loss, pitching 0.2 innings while giving up four runs on four hits. Han went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate while Scherer was 1-for-1 with her three-run home run in the first, as she was intentionally walked twice after that.
