Box Score.

ANN ARBOR
, Mich.A two-run homer by sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) proved to be the difference Tuesday afternoon, March 24, at Ray Fisher Stadium, as the Eastern Michigan University baseball team registered a 3-1 victory over the University of Michigan.

The Eagles snap a 12-game losing streak with the win and improve to 4-18, while U-M drops to 14-6 with the loss.

The victory marks the first win at U-M since April 18, 2007, when EMU registered a 10-2 victory over the Wolverines.

Skirving had a big game for the Eagles, going 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI, while senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) finished 3-for-5 with two stolen bases.

Junior Kevin Sikora (Youngstown, Ohio-Boardman) had a stellar outing for the Eagles in his first start of the year, going six and two-thirds innings, giving up just one run on seven hits, while fanning four U-M batters and picking off a pair of runners to earn his first win of the season. Sophomore Tim Combs (Dayton, Ohio-Wayne) pitched well in relief, going two and one-thirds innings to earn the save, his first of the season.

Skirving broke up a scoreless game in the top of fourth, as he belted a two-run homer over the right field wall to score freshman Brent Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian) and give EMU a 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Kyle Klein (Grand Rapids, Mich.-West Catholic) extended EMU's lead to three in the top of the sixth, as his one-out sacrifice bunt scored junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) from third to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

The Wolverines pulled within two in the bottom of the seventh, as an RBI groundout by Kevin Cislo scored Tim Kalczynski to make it a 3-1 game, but the EMU pitching staff held the Wolverines at bay for remainder of the contest to help seal the victory.

The Eagles head to Oxford, Ohio this weekend for their second Mid-American Conference series of the season, as team takes on the Miami University RedHawks, March 27-29, at McKie Field. EMU leads the all-time series over the RedHawks, 55-39, including a sweep over Miami last season at Oestrike Stadium.
