RADFORD, Va. – On the second day of the Highlander Classic at Radford University, the Eastern Michigan University softball team went 1-1, defeating Toledo, 3-0, before falling to Radford, 11-3 in five innings. The Eagles have received the No. 2 seed for tomorrow's action and will take on No. 3 Harvard at noon.

RADFORD, Va. – On the second day of the Highlander Classic at Radford University, the Eastern Michigan University softball team went 1-1, defeating Toledo, 3-0, before falling to Radford, 11-3 in five innings. The Eagles have received the No. 2 seed for tomorrow's action and will take on No. 3 Harvard at noon.
In the day's first game against Toledo, the Eagles scored a run in the second inning before tacking on another two runs in the top of the seventh to secure to the shutout victory. Sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) picked up her second consecutive win, keeping the Rockets off the board while allowing five hits and striking out five. Senior Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) and freshman Sarah Gerber (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) both went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the offensive attack for the Eagles.
Against the Highlanders, the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of action but a four-run fourth inning allowed Radford to take the lead for good en route to an 11-3 win in five innings. Sophomore Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Westmont) was charged with the loss, pitching 4.0 innings while giving up six runs on eight hits. Han hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning. Gerber continued to hit well, going 3-for-3 with a run scored.
The Eagles, now 9-12 on the year, move to tournament action tomorrow, taking on Harvard at noon. The Crimson and Eagles battled on the first day of round robin action, with EMU coming away with a 5-1 win. If EMU wins, its second game will be at 4 p.m. A loss will result in a 2 p.m. contest.
