Softball Falls to No. 22/17 Ohio State In Tournament Finale

EMU records eight hits in five-inning setback

LOUISVILLE
, Ky. – After falling behind 8-0 in the early stages, the Eastern Michigan University softball team was unable to complete the rally, dropping its second consecutive contest to the No. 22/17 Ohio State Buckeyes, 11-3 in five innings, March 15. The Eagles completed the three-day Cardinal Tournament with a 2-3 record to move their overall record to 7-11.
 
The Buckeyes scored eight runs in the first two innings, putting the Eagles in a hole they could not climb out of. EMU scored a run in the third inning and then plated another two runs in the fourth inning to get within five, 8-3. The Bucks answered with another run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead back to six runs before ending the game with a two-run fifth to record the win.
 
A day after being no-hit by OSU, the Eagles managed eight hits but could not come away with the win. Eight Eagles recorded a hit, with McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) going 1-for-2 with an RBI and Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) going 1-for-3 with an RBI.. Sophomore Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Wesmont) was charged with the loss, going 1.1 innings while giving up eight runs, five earned, on four hits.
 
Next up for EMU is the Highlander Classic at Radford University, March 20-22. The Eagles will take on Harvard University, March 20 at 2 p.m. to kick off the final tournament of the season.
