Eagles return to action Feb. 15-16
STILLWATER, Okla.—In its first outdoor match of the season the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 70 Oklahoma State University Saturday, Feb. 7.
The Eagles are now 2-4 on the season, while the Cowgirls improve to 1-2.
"I think we made a little improvement today, “ said head coach Ryan Ray. “We were very sluggish in doubles, but we responded well by competing better in the singles. For a first outdoor match, I think Joanna and Chang did a good job of spinning the ball in the wind, hopefully we keep improving and learning through a difficult non-conference schedule, and we can see the benefits come conference season."
Picking up the long win for the Green and White was senior Joanna Woo (Winnepeg, Manitoba) at the fourth flight in singles competition. She defeated Maryna Tkachenko in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
The Eagles fell behind early in doubles competition, dropping all three doubles matches. Woo was able to pick up one win for the Eagles, but the Cowgirls were too much, taking the 6-1 win.
The Eagles will return home for the week before hitting the road again, travelling west again to Nebraska, Feb. 15, for a 1 p.m. match with the University of Nebraska. They will then face Colorado State in a neutral site competition in Lincoln, Neb.
