» 2009 SEASON KICKS OFF: The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team kicked off its 97th season of indoor track and field, Jan. 10, 2009. The first year the Eagles competed in indoor track was 1921-22 with the arrival of Head Coach Lloyd Olds. Although the Eagles had competed in indoor track for decades, the Mid-American Conference did not officially begin sponsoring a championship until the 1996 season.
» PREMIER COMPETITION: The EMU men's track and field team will head to Notre Dame, Ind. for the Meyo Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb, 6-7. Friday's action is expected to begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday will kick off at 9 a.m.
» OVERSIZED: This will be the first meet of the season that the Eagles have run on an oversized track. Most indoor track facilities are 200 meters in length, but in the last 15 years, schools have begun to build large, oversized tracks, to help speed up times due to the decrease in the number of turns a runner would have to make, as compared to a 200-meter track. The MAC Championship will be held at Kent State University this year and it features a 292-meter track.
» DOMINATING THE DUALS: The Eastern Michigan University men's track team defeated Central Michigan, Oakland and Detroit at Bob Parks Track, Jan. 30, in the annual dual meet. The Eagles won eight events throughout the evening and had one NCAA Provisional qualifier.
» NCAA PROVISIONAL QUALIFIER: Senior David Brent ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:51.41 (1:50.81converted) in the 800 meters at the Dual Meet, Jan. 30, to win the event.
» TOP 'O' THE MAC: The Eagles hold the top spots in the MAC in five different events, including the 60-meter dash, 800-meter run, mile run, 3,000-meter run and the distance medley relay.
