Box score: Game 1. Game 2.

ATLANTA
, Ga. The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a pair of games Saturday afternoon, Feb. 28, in Atlanta, Ga., as the Georgia State University Panthers handed the Eagles a 14-6 loss in game one and a 12-6 loss in the game two.

Senior Sean Hoffman (Midland, Mich.-Midland) took the loss for the Eagles in game one, putting him a 0-1 on the mound this season. Sophomore Jordan Goldschmidt (Ft. Loramie, Ohio-Ft. Loramie) took the loss for EMU in game two.

Sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) hit his first home run of the season in game one to extend his hit streak to 13-games, but he finished 0-for-1 with a walk in game two to end the streak.

In game one, the Eagles took an early 2-1 lead in the top of the second, as a two-run double by senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) scored freshman Brent Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian) and junior Aaron Crooks (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) to give EMU the lead.

The Panthers would answer big in the bottom half of the inning, as a pair of two-run singles by Derek Simmons and Jonathan Kolowich helped pave the way for six GSU runs, putting the Eagles down, 7-2. The Panthers tacked on seven more runs in the contest to seal the win and hand EMU the loss.

The Eagles used the long-ball in game two to stay in the game, as senior Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston), sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) and Rhoad each belted home runs for EMU, but four runs in the second and six runs in the third by the Panthers proved to be too much to overcome, as the Eagles fell short for the second game in a row against GSU.

The Eagles wrap up their spring break road trip tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game against the Panthers. Freshman Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) is scheduled to start on the mound for EMU, while John Locklear will get the nod for GSU.
