Softball Drops Two at UCF Round Robin

ORLANDO
, Fla.- The Eastern Michigan University softball dropped two games of a round robin, falling to Bethune-Cookman, 3-1, and UCF, 5-4, February, 25 at UCF. With the two losses, EMU is now 3-5 on the season.
 
The Eagles dropped the first game of the round robin, falling to Bethune-Cookman, 3-1. EMU scored the first run of the contest in the second inning when Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) singled to score Jenny Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe), who doubled to reach base. The Wildcats rallied for the win, scoring two runs in the fifth and tacking on an extra run in the seventh to secure the 3-1 victory. Junior Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Westmont) was charged with the loss, pitching 5.0 innings while giving up two runs on six hits.
 
In the second game against the Knights, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage after one inning. Lead-off hitter Lauren Delapaz (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) started the game off with a double to right center, advancing to third on a wild pitch. Delepaz headed home after another wild pitch to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Scherer singled in another run for EMU with the final run of the frame being scored off a Kaylee Tolliver (Amanda, Ohio-Amanda Clearcreek) single up the middle.
 
The Knights put two runs on the board in the second inning to close the gap. EMU was able to answer with another run in the fourth inning when Kelsey Greene (Burr Oak, Mich.-Burr Oak) doubled to score Sarah Gerber (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover), putting the Eagles up, 4-2.
 
UCF rallied in the fifth inning, scoring another three runs to take its first lead of the game, 5-4. The Eagles were able to put two runners on base with no one out in the sixth, but could not bring them home. Hletko (1-2) picked up the loss in the circle, pitching 2.0 innings wile giving up one run on two hits.
 
The Eagles will wrap up their spring trip this weekend, participating in the UCF Invitational. First up for EMU is Villanova, Friday, Feb. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
