Game 2 Box Score
FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped a pair of games as part of a doubleheader at Florida Gulf Coast University, 9-6 and 3-2, Tuesday, Feb. 24. The Eagles are now 3-3 on the season.
Reigning Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) went 1-for-2 in the first contest, hitting her second home run of the season. Freshman Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) went 3-for-4 in the first contest, while fellow classmates Kaylee Tolliver (Amanda, Ohio-Amanda Clearcreek) and Sarah Gerber (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) both collected two hits. Freshman Kelsey Greene (Burr Oak, Mich.-Burr Oak) was charged with the loss, pitching 3.0 innings while allowing three runs on six hits.
After being down 5-0 entering the fifth inning, the Eagles put up four runs in the frame to get within a run. FGCU then increased the lead back to 9-4 after scoring four in the sixth inning. Skodinski's two-run homer in the seventh helped close the gap to 9-6, but EMU was unable to complete the rally.
The Eagles fell behind 1-0 in the third inning of the second game, but rallied to take a 2-1 advantage after a two-run fifth inning. Jenny Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) ripped a single to left field, plating two runs for the Green and White. The advantage was short-lived, as FGCU put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Five Eagles tallied hits in the second game while sophomore Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) pitched five innings in relief. Caro fanned three batters while allowing three runs in the loss.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow, traveling to Orlando, Fla., for a three-team round robin with Central Florida and Bethune-Cookman. EMU takes on Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m. and then the host UCF Knights at 6 p.m.
