Skodinski's two run home run completes rally for EMU

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla.
– The Eastern Michigan University softball team rallied in the sixth inning behind a Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) two-run home run to defeat the No. 22/25 University of Louisville in the final game of the USF “The Game” Tournament, Feb. 22. The Eagles are now 3-1 on the season.

The Eagles put a run on the board in the second inning, off a Jennie Sherman (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon) sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Skodinski, who had reached on a fielder's choice. EMU held onto its 1-0 lead until the fifth inning when the Cards scored two runs.

EMU put together a stellar sixth inning to rally for the win against the Big East Conference Cardinals. Jessica Patterson (Ionia, Mich.-Ionia) was able to get on base by virtue of a throwing error by the Louisville shortstop. Skodinski once again delivered for the Eagles, knocking a pitch out of the park for her first home run of the season.

Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Westmont) got the starting nod in the circle, pitching 4.2 innings without a decision. The junior allowed two runs while striking out two. Freshman Allison Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) picked up her first collegiate win, pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Sophomore Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) came in to record the save for the Green and White.

The Eagles continue their stay in the Sunshine State, taking on Florida Gulf Coast in a doubleheader, Tuesday, Feb. 24. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
