YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team snapped its streak of tied games by defeating the University at Buffalo Friday afternoon, 2-0, at Scicluna Field in the Eagles' MAC home opener.

The Green and White had tied in three straight matches before Friday, but they got two goals in the second half from Chelsea Detrick and Amanda Marsh while holding the Bulls scoreless to earn their first MAC win of the year.

The Bulls held possession early in the game and got a few chances on Eagle goalkeeper Maggie Manville. In the 18th minute, Buffalo's Stephanie Velez got free in the box to put one past Manville which would have given her team a 1-0 lead, but it was negated after the Bulls were called offside.

Both teams went into halftime in a scoreless tie. In the second half, Eastern Michigan held control, gaining several scoring chances before Detrick was able to get her head on a beautiful cross by Carissa Wilson in the 54th minute. Stephanie Janssens also teamed up on the play for her first assist of the season. For Detrick, it was her third goal of the season.

In the 75th minute, Marsh saw an opening and put a boot on a shot from 25 yards out, blowing it past Buffalo keeper, Amy Coron, into the upper right corner of the goal for her second score of the season. It was the highest scoring output for Eastern Michigan since they scored five goals in a win over Loyola College (Md.) back on Sept. 13.

It was also the sixth shutout for the Green and White and, for Manville, her fourth of the season and 15th of her career. She made five saves in the win.

The Eagles remain unbeaten all-time in MAC home openers with an 11-0-2 record and they've outscored Buffalo 21-3 since 1996. EMU will go for a weekend home sweep when it takes on Kent State at Scicluna Field at 1 p.m. Sunday.

During halftime of Sunday's match, Eastern Michigan will pay tribute to the 1999 MAC regular season and tournament championship team who is celebrating its 10th anniversary of that historic season.
