At halftime of Sunday's contest, the Eagles will honor the 1999 team that won MAC league and tournament titles.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 1999 Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team's first Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles. Members from that team will make their return to Ypsilanti this weekend and will be honored during halftime of the women's soccer game Sunday, Oct.4.

Just four years into the program's existence, and the first-year under Head Coach Scott Hall, the Eagles set the bar high, turning in a 17-4-3 overall record with a 10-1-3 mark in league play to win the regular season and tournament league crowns. The Green and White also claimed its first NCAA Tournament berth in the process.

A talented balance of offense and defense paced the Eagles that season. They ranked sixth nationally in team defense with a 0.55 goals against average and finished the year with 13 shutouts, good for seventh in the nation. Goalkeeper Sarah Willis was named MAC Player of the Year along with five others receiving all conference honors.

Hall was named MAC Coach of the Year, the first time an EMU soccer coach earned the award. He continues to bring success to the EMU soccer program, compiling a 109-79-27 record now in his 11th season.

The Eagles wasted no time getting out of the gate strong as they won their first six matches including one on the road at Michigan State University to begin the 1999 season. They opened MAC play by going unbeaten in their first seven games before finishing with a 10-1-3 record. In the MAC Tournament, EMU outscored its opponents 8-0 and beat Miami University in the MAC Championship game on a shootout to capture the MAC Tournament title.

They went onto the NCAA tournament, but fell to the University of Minnesota in the first round, 2-0. Since then, the Eagles have won another MAC regular season crown, but have yet to reach the NCAA tournament for a second time.

Friday's contest between the Eagles and Bulls is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
