Freshman scores four goals over the weekend to help EMU go 2-0
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Freshman midfielder/forward Chelsea Detrick (Grosse Pointe, Mich.-Grosse Pointe North) was selected the Mid-American Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, Sept. 22. This is the first time she has won the weekly award and the first time an EMU player has been honored since the 2005 season.
Detrick helped the Eagles to wins at Indiana State (Sept. 19) and IUPUI (Sept. 21). The freshman scored four of EMU’s five goals, including both game-winners to push the Eagles’ record to 5-2-2. Against IUPUI, her last-second cross deflected off an IUPUI defender into an open goal, securing a 2-1 win in regulation for the Eagles.
On the year, Detrick leads the Eagles in points (14), goals (seven) and game-winners (two). She has three multi-goal games on the year, scoring two goals against Eastern Illinois (Sept. 7), Indiana State and IUPUI.
The Eagles open MAC play this weekend at Scicluna Field, first hosting Miami University Friday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Following that contest, the Eagles will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 27 when they welcome the Ball State Cardinals to town, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
