YPSILANTI-The Eastern Michigan University women’s track and field team finished seventh out of 12 teams at the 2008 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, here Saturday at Bob Parks Track.
 
The Eagles totaled 40.50 points during the two-day competition, improving from 12th place a year ago.
 
Janice Keppler was the lone MAC Champion for the Eagles, dominating the pole vault. She only lost one competition this year at the Meyo Invite, where she finished third against stellar national competition.
 
Freshman Dejaa Shearer finished sixth in the 400 meters in a time of 57.54. The Eagles had two top-eight finishers in the 800 meters. Beverly Elcock finished fifth with a time of 2:14.93, while Lauren Quaintance was eighth with a time of 2:16.20.
 
Andrea Wheeler finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles for the third year in a row. This year, she finished in a time of 8.65 seconds.
 
The 4x400 meter relay team of Elcock, Brittany Lockhart, Jasmine Gates and Shearer medaled, finishing third with a time of 3:49.55, a season-best for the Green and White. In the distance medley relay, Elcock, Gates, Quaintance and Melissa Green led the Eagles to a seventh place finish.
 
Gates tied for third in the high jump, going 5-6.00, and just missed clearing 5-08.00. Lockhart finished fourth in the pentathlon, totaling 3,564 points through five events, a career-best for the sophomore.
