Women's team third, men's team ranked sixth in CollegeSwimming.com poll
YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams ended the season ranked in the final Mid-Major poll, produced by CollegeSwimming.com. The women’s team earned a No. 3 ranking, while the Mid-American Conference champion men’s team ranked sixth to end the season.
The women ended the season with a 9-3 overall record, including a 5-2 MAC mark. The Eagles placed third at the MAC Championships (Feb. 20-23), led by three-time Swimmer of the Year Madeleine Pilchard. EMU also placed six athletes on All-MAC squads. With a No. 3 ranking in the final Mid-Major poll, the Eagles are the highest ranked MAC program, with Ohio coming in at No. 4.
On the men’s side, the Eagles finished the season with a 6-3 overall record, with a 3-0 conference record. EMU won its second consecutive MAC Championship and 27th overall. Also, with a dual meet win over Miami (Feb. 2) earlier this season, it marked the 50th consecutive MAC dual meet win for the program. The Eagles placed a league-high 16 athletes on All-MAC squads, led by Swimmer of the Year Derick Roe. Head coach Peter Linn was selected Coach of the Year, with diving coach Buck Smith taking home Diving Coach of the Year honors. EMU is the only MAC school to be ranked in the poll.
CollegeSwimming.com produces a power ranking for Mid-Major Division I institutions. The mid-major rankings were designed to support and promote institutions that do not benefit from large football and basketball television agreements. Rankings are based on each team's best dual meet lineup as judged and submitted by participating teams. Institutions from the following conferences are eligible to participate: America East, Atlantic 10, Big West, Colonial Athletic Association, EISL, Horizon League, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Continent, Missouri Valley, North Eastern, Patriot and Sun Belt conferences. Additional schools may participate provided they certify that their school awards seven or fewer women’s, or five or fewer men’s scholarships.
