EMU Drops Doubleheader at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. — The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Fresno State University today at Bulldog Diamond, losing the first game by a score of 11-0 and the second game, 11-3.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season, while Fresno State improves to 10-3 on the year.
In the first game of the twinbill, the Bulldogs blanked EMU en route to a five-inning, 11-0 victory. The Eagles struggled to find their offense, totaling only one hit on the evening. Sophomore Jenny Scherer was the lone Eagle to record a hit, going 1-for-2. Sophomore Michelle Hletko (0-1) picked up the loss on the mound for EMU, allowing 14 hits and 11 runs.
The Eagle offense awakened in the second game, scoring three runs on six hits. It was not enough as Fresno State was able to rack up 11 runs again to defeat the Eagles, 11-3. EMU was led by Lindsay Ritz and Scherer, who both went 2-for-3. Freshman Stacie Skodinski went 1-for-3 with two RBI Kari Chambers (2-2) picked up the loss for Eastern, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up 11 hits and six earned runs, while striking out two.
The Green and White will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 26, when they travel to Riverside, Calif. to take on Cal-Riverside and former EMU coach Connie Miner in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
