Eagles Remain in Third Place

Pilchard, Ricard and Burandt take top three spots in 200 freestyle
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The trio of Madeleine Pilchard, Alissa Ricard and Hannah Burandt took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle, as EMU remained in third place following the third day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championships. EMU has 366 points heading into the final day of swimming.
During the preliminaries of the 200 freestyle this morning, three Eagles had NCAA cut times. Pilchard set a MAC, a MAC meet and a UB pool record, as well as achieving an NCAA ‘A’ time when she finished in 1:46.33. Burandt (1:49.22) and Ricard (1:49.31) notched ‘B’ cut times during the preliminary action.
In the first event of the finals, Leeza Moser took third place in the 400 IM, clocking in with a time of 4:24.36, netting 16 points for the Eagles. The trio of Pilchard, Ricard and Burandt took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle, giving EMU 53 points and pushing the Eagles back into third place. Pilchard improved on her preliminary showing, this time finishing in 1:46.11, bettering her records from earlier in the day. The win was also her fourth consecutive MAC Championship victory in the 200 freestyle. Ricard finished runner-up, with a time of 1:47.74, with Burandt (1:48.35) placing third.
The Eagles continued their strong showing, as Sheila Carson took third in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.45, while Ashley Durand finished right behind her teammate in a time of 1:04.80. Freshman Chelsea Allard (1:04.92) finished in sixth place, giving the Eagles three top-eight finishers in the race. EMU finished the day winning the 400 medley relay. The team of Pilchard, Durand, Moser and Ricard set a new pool reord with a time of 3:44.63.
Toledo remained in first place with a total of 426.5 points, while Ohio sits in second place with 416.5 points. EMU is in third, with Miami close behind in fourth place with 356 points.
The MAC Championship meet will conclude tomorrow, Feb. 23, with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle, three-meter diving and the 400 freestyle relay. Preliminary action will begin at 11 a.m., with the finals starting at 7 p.m.
