Two freshmen look to make an impact in scoring for the Eagles.
YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University women’s cross country team will host the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday, Nov. 1, at Eagle Crest Golf Course. Head coach Sue Parks is entering her third Championship with the Eagles and after finishing ninth in 2006 and 11th one year ago with a much smaller team.
The Eagles are ready to make a step upward as this is the first season with a large recruiting class and with the graduation of Kalli Williams, senior Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio/Broadview Heights) would lead the young team. Green is the returning All-MAC athlete and this year’s captain and looks to repeat as an All-MAC runner. Green had a rough start to the beginning of her season after sustaining an injury to her leg during summer conditioning. She led the Eagles for the first time this season at the Pre-Nationals.
Freshmen Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) and Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich./Woodhaven) have made huge contributions to the team this season, leading the team in every other meet. Hollinger-Janzen and Webb look to have a strong championship meet and make an impact as freshmen.
Looking to assist Green, Hollinger-Janzen and Webb are juniors Megan Flewelling (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Powers Catholic) and Jackie Ellis (Lebanon, Ohio-Hope College), sophomores Lauren Quaintance (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) and Beverly Elcock (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Northrop) and freshmen Justine Baese (Elsie, Mich.-Ovid Elsie) and Danielle Kirkpatrick (Twinsburg, Ohio-Twinsburg).
