EMU Sweeps MAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

Vollmar and Hutson earn the honor for the first time in their careers

CLEVELAND, Ohio.- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's cross country team swept the Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week Awards as announced by the conference office Tuesday. Junior Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc) took the men's win, while freshman Amber Hutson (Jerome, Mich.-Hanover Horton) won the women's award.

Vollmar was the top EMU finisher at the EMU Fall Classic Friday, Oct. 24, a non-scoring meet including the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. His time of 32:02 was the fastest 10-kilometer race of his career. For the women, Hutson led the Eagles for the first time in her career. She finished 25th with a time of 20:05 for the 5K.

The Eagles return to action Saturday, Nov.1, as the two squads host the 2008 MAC Cross Country Championships. The men’s race is slated to begin at 11 a.m. at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti, Mich. The women will follow at noon.
