Junior earns third career weekly conference accolade

YPSILANTI, Mich.- Eastern Michigan University junior Catherine Fortin (Beauceville, Canada-Polyvalente St. Francois) was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the period ending April 24. The award marks the third time in her career that she has claimed the weekly league accolade.

Fortin carded an 80 during play Sunday, following up her 77 and 75 during play on Saturday to tie for 13th place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. The Beauceville, Canada native was the third highest finishing Mid-American Conference golfer in the tournament along with recording her 10th consecutive top 20 appearance this season.

In 10 tournaments the Eagles have competed in during the 2006-07 campaign, Fortin has finished in the top-20 every time. She is averaging 76.0 shots per round on the season, which is forth-best in the Mid-American Conference.

Eastern Michigan will play host to the 2007 Mid-American Golf Championships this weekend, April 27-29, at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The three-day, 72-hole event will culminate with the crowning of this year's champion Sunday afternoon.

The eight MAC institutions that sponsor women's golf. Ball State University, Bowling Green State University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Northern Illinois University, Ohio University, the University of Toledo and Western Michigan University will descend on the area for a practice round, April 26, before beginning play at 8 a.m., April 27.
