Junior Catherine Fortin led the way for EMU on the first day of competition, firing a 152 (77-75) to tie for sixth place. Sophomore Courtney Aili recorded a pair of 77s to move into a tie for 11th with a 154. Sophomore Stephany Fleet added a 162 (81-81) while junior Paola Sanchez carded a 166 (83-83) to tie for 52nd. Senior Kelly Boogaard and redshirt freshman Marjorie Thuot rounded out the lineup with a 167 (86-81) and a 174 (91-83), respectively.
Teammates Maria Hernandez and Christel Boeljon of Purdue share the lead in the individual competition at the end of day one. The pair sits five strokes ahead of the third place individual with a two-round total of 142.
The Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational will resume Sunday with the third round beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened day one of the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational in sixth place in the field of 14 teams. The Eagles shot a team total of 634 (318-316) on the par-72 Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course. Leading the team competition after day one is Purdue with a two-round total of 593 (298-295).
