TAMPA, Fla. — The Eagles were limited to just one hit against UAB in a 5-0 loss in Eastern Michigan University’s season opener in the opening round of action in the University of South Florida “The Game” Tournament, here Friday morning at the USF Softball Field.    

UAB hurler Kayla Harris allowed just one hit in a complete game shutout. Senior Lindsay Ritz managed EMU’s lone hit, a single to leftfield in the third inning.        

Senior Michelle Lloyd (0-1) gave up four hits in four and 2/3 innings, while recording four strikeouts. Senior Aimee Woodrum relieved Lloyd, and threw the final 1 and 1/3 inning.   

The Blazers got on the board first after a one-out solo home run by Holly Krzan, which landed just inside the foul pole to leftfield in the bottom of the first. 

The Eagles threatened in the second inning after back-to-back walks to sophomore Heather Han and senior Lindsay Schmid started the innings. But a ground out followed by a 6-4-3 double play ending the inning, keeping the score at 1-0.       

Andrea Rogers added to UAB’s advantage after an RBI single to leftfield scored Lindsay Stanley in the third inning, putting the Blazers up 2-0. A hit batter and two Eagle errors led to UAB extending its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. In the fifth, the Blazers plated games final two runs off a double and a single.      

The Eagles (0-1) will be in action again, later today (Feb. 23), when they face host USF, continuing tournament action. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. EMU will face Drake University Saturday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. during second day of tournament play at the USF Softball Field.
