EAGLES HEAD TO THE BAHAMAS FOR JUNKANOO JAM: After a perfect 3-0 start to the season, the Eagles are ready to leave the cold and jet to the islands of the Bahamas to participate in the Fifth Annual Junkanoo hosted by the Bahamas Basketball Federation. The Eagles will be joined by Alabama, North Carolina State and Washington State in the Lucaya Division bracket, while Georgia, Virginia Tech, Prairie View A&M and Southern California will be in the Freeport Division bracket. The trip will mark the second time that EMU has played in the Bahamas. In 2000 the Eagles played in the Nassau Sun Splash Shootout, posting a 50-35 victory over Creighton, Dec. 21, and a 65-45 loss to Oklahoma State, Dec. 20.

EMU VERSUS TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT: The Eagles are just 0-1 all-time versus the three other teams in the Lucaya Division. The lone decision came against North Carolina State, Dec. 20, 2003, in opening game of the San Juan Shootout. That day the Wolfpack posted a 64-55 victory. The Green and White have never faced Washington State or Alabama; however EMU and WSU are familiar with each other as the squads took part in the Rainbow Wahine Classic, Nov. 25-27, 2005, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

PITTMAN NAMED MAC WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore guard Alyssa Pittman was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 18, 2007. The honor marks the second time in her career she has earned the honor. Pittman helped the Eagles to a 2-0 week that included a 65-54 victory over Detroit, Nov. 14, and a 74-41 rout of Wright State, Nov. 17. For the week she averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 31.0 minutes per game. She also shot a red hot 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor and an even better 59 percent (13-of-22) from long distance. Against Wright State, she equaled her career best with seven treys for a total of 26 points. Last year she connected on seven treys at Massachusetts (12-13-06) which is tied for the second best single-game performance in EMU history. At Detroit she drained six threes and grabbed eight rebounds during the 11-point decision. Already this season Pittman has 16 three-pointers in 31 attempts, which is tops in the Mid-American Conference this season.

GILBERT OFF TO THE BEST START FOR FIRST YEAR COACH IN EMU HISTORY: Head coach AnnMarie Gilbert’s 3-0 start to the 2007-08 campaign is the best for any first year mentor in EMU history. Prior to this the best EMU coaching debut was 2-1 by Cheryl Getz in 1987-88, when she notched wins over Robert Morris and Cleveland State before falling to Michigan State.

I WOULD WALK 10,000 MILES OR 12,171 TO BE EXACT: Pack your bags and grab some information about frequent flyer programs because the Eagles will earn plenty of mileage over the next month. The team will make stops in the Bahamas, Utah, Florida, Pennsylvania and then back to Utah. All together the EMU road trips will tally over 12,171 miles during the non-conference season. During the Mid-American Conference season the Eagles will rack up only 2,968 miles of travel during their eight league road contests.

108 SETS SCHOOL’S RECORD FOR POINTS IN A GAME: EMU’s 108 points against Temple Baptist, Nov. 11, surpassed the school-record for most points in a single game. Previously the record was 106 against Windsor, Jan. 18, 1978.

THE KIDS CAN PLAY: The average 2007-08 EMU women’s basketball player stands 5-feet-9 tall and is 19.9 years old. The youngest Eagle is Cassie Schrock, who turned 18, Oct. 13, 2007. Canea Williams is the oldest Eagle having turned 22, March 24, 2007.
