Box score

YPSILANTI, Mich. – An RBI single to right field by freshman outfielder Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) in the sixth inning plated the winning run for the Eagles as the Eastern Michigan University softball team edged the University of Akron, 2-1, here Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field. With the win the Eagles improve to 25-26 and 13-8 in the Mid-American Conference.

Senior pitcher Nikki Denman (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Southview) threw 6 and 1/3 innings allowing one earned run. After the Zips moved a runner to second with one out in the seventh, junior Aimee Woodrum (Cincinnati, Ohio-Sycamore) came in and closed the door by striking out the only two batters she faced to secure the EMU victory. The save is the second on the season for Woodrum.

Junior shortstop Lauren Clark (Flat Rock, Mich.-New Boston Huron) went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and hit her 14th double of the season. Han finished the game 1-for-2 with the game winning RBI.

Akron scored first in the third inning off two doubles. EMU knotted the game at 1-1 in the fourth after an RBI single by Clark. The game remained tied until Han’s RBI single in the sixth.

The Eagles will close out the 2006 regular season Sunday, May 7, with the conclusion of the Akron series. EMU has clinched a birth in the MAC Tournament and complete brackets will be available Monday, May 8.
