Eagles End Regular Season with Victory

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University softball team closed out the regular season in shutout style blanking the University of Akron, 4-0, here today at Varsity Field. The season finale was the final home game for seniors Nikki Denman (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Southview), Katie Grens (Elgin, Ill.-Elgin) and Kelly Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park). The Eagles finished the regular season with a 26-26 mark overall and 14-9 in Mid-American Conference play.
Junior pitcher Aimee Woodrum (Cincinnati, Ohio-Sycamore) allowed only three hits in her second complete game shutout of the season. The victory moves her to 8-6 on the season despite an 0-4 mark to begin the year.
Junior Lauren Clark (Flat Rock, Mich.-New Boston Huron) had her 19th multi-hit game of the season, a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI. Junior Lindsay Schmid (Madison, Ohio-Madison) belted her fourth home run of the season.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after a solo home run by Schmid and an RBI single by sophomore Ashley Strauss (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton). EMU added its final runs on a two-out two-run single by Clark.
The Eagles will be in action again Wednesday, May 10 in the MAC Tournament with a single game with Central Michigan. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
