Jeff Fischer Named MAC West Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore pitcher picks up first-career award

YPSILANTI, Mich.— Eastern Michigan University sophomore pitcher Jeff Fischer (Farmington, Mich.-Farmington) has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 23, 2006, the conference office announced today. This marks the first time Fischer has won the award in his career.

Fischer (7-3) started the series opener against Ball State. After a two hour and 10 minute rain delay, he came back out on the mound and tossed his first career complete-game shut out tallying nine strikeouts. Fischer also scattered four hits and one walk for a total 0.00 ERA on 32 batters faced to lead the Eagles to a 8-0 victory over the Cardinals.

For the season, Fischer has started eight games with 12 appearances and four complete games for a 1.64 ERA. He also leads the team with 72 strikeouts while only allowing 64 hits, 23 runs and 19 walks.
