YPSILANTI, Mich.
– A base hit in the bottom of the tenth inning by sophomore Steve Bradshaw gave the Eastern Michigan University baseball team a 5-4 victory over Mid-American Conference rival Ball State here Sunday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium.

EMU (20-17, 9-6 MAC) rebounded from an earlier 7-0 set back at the hands of the Ball State (21-18, 8-7 MAC) and moves into sole position of second place in the MAC West Division standings.

Junior Derek Lehrman led the way for the Eagles going 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Freshman Kevin Wammes (2-2) notched his second win of the season going 3.2 innings pitched only allowing one hit and one walk.

Ball State was led by C.J. Webb who went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored while Kyle Heyne picked up the loss on the mound.

EMU went up 1-0 in the bottom of the forth on a Lehrman double down the left field line to score Bradshaw.

The lead did not last for long as Ball State’s Brad Miller hit his fourth home run of the series to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning.

The Eagles regained the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning as Lehrman singled to center field to score Jeff Davis. Hehr then doubled scoring Lehrman and Josh Ivan but was thrown out at third while trying to stretch the hit to end the inning.

Ball State responded in the seventh with three runs on three hits to tie the score at 4-4 on a Webb single and an Eagle throwing error.

With two outs in the top of the eight inning and runners on first and second, senior Matt Moffett made the defensive play of the game by snagging a hard hit bullet down the left line by Miller to steal the extra base hit and get the Eagles out of a jam.

In the tenth, Isaiah Gainforth singled and was moved to third on a Davis double. Ivan was intentionally walked to load the bases for the double play set up. However, the double play ball never came as Bradshaw singled to left center to score Gainforth and lock up the victory.

EMU will continue its home stand against Indiana Tech on Tuesday, April 25 at Oestrike Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
