, Mich. – A two-run home run by senior Matt Moffett in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Eastern Michigan University baseball team to an 8-6 victory over Indiana Tech here at Oestrike Stadium.

With the victory, EMU (21-17, 9-6 MAC) improves to an impressive 15-2 mark at home while Indiana Tech falls to 23-21-1, 8-4 WHAC. Both teams accounted for 17 total hits and 14 runs scored.

Both seniors led the way for the Eagles as Moffett went 1-for-4 from the plate and drove in three RBI in addition to hitting his team leading fourth home run. Isaiah Gainforth hit 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior Matt Dillard (3-2) got the decision going 1.2 innings pitched with one strike out while allowing one hit. Sophomore Jeff Davis notched his fourth save of the year.

Indiana Tech was led by junior Tony Aldridge who went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored while Tommy Guin picked up the loss on the mound.

EMU got on the board first in the third inning courtesy of three Indiana Tech miscues. Gainforth and Moffett both reached on errors. Ivan advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt and an errant throw by the pitcher plated both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Indiana Tech came right back in the top of the third inning on a Shaw Placie double down the right field line which scored two runs.

The Eagles regained the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the frame as Gainforth singled to center field to score Derek Lehrrman.

Indiana Tech responded in the fifth inning and took advantage of one EMU error and three hit batsmen as the Warriors tallied three runs on two hits to take a 5-3 lead.

EMU got things going in the bottom of the sixth inning as Gainforth doubled to right field scoring Kyle Rhoad and Steve Bradshaw. A Moffett grounder also scored Brian Blackburn to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead.

Indiana Tech’s Aldrige led off the seventh inning with a triple to left center and was driven in by a Mark Heineman single to tie the score at 6-6.

Moffett’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth put the Eagles up for good, 8-6. Davis came in and closed the door on the Warriors pitching a 1-2-3 inning to seal the victory.

EMU will continue its home stand against Northwood on Wednesday, April 26 at Oestrike Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
