Gymnastics Edges MAC Preseason Favorite Central Michigan

Rebecca Fuss leads Eagles with an all-around total of 37.950
YPSILANTI, Mich.-- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team edged Mid-American Conference preseason favorite Central Michigan University, 189.600-189.475, here at Warner Gymnasium. The Eagles trailed the Chippewas by over one-point heading into the final event but rallied back posting a 48.050 on the floor to claim the meet.
Sophomore Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone) captured the individual title of the bars with a 9.675, junior Rebecca Fuss Orlando, Fla.-Dr. Phillips) won the beam with a score of 9.725 and sophomore Tawna Bennett Jacksonville, Fla.-Edward White) captured the floor championship with a mark of 9.800. 
Central started off the meet off well on the vault scoring a total 48.600 to Eastern's 47.700. Mattie Crawford led the way for the Chippewas in the rotation with a 9.900, while Bennett led the Eagles with a 9.725 for a third place showing. 
The Eagles charged back on the uneven bars as Worley posted a team-high 9.675 to lead the team to a score of 47.550 on the event. Eastern held a tight 95.250 to 95.075 lead half way through the meet.
The Chippewas came back to regain the lead again on the balance beam, despite Fuss claiming medalist honors on the event with a 9.725. CMU's Nicole Cherryhomes scored a 9.650 and both Danielle Espinoza and Stephanie Langley scored 9.625 to pace the Maroon and Gold.
The Eagles took over the meet on the floor rotation led by Bennett's 9.800 and Fuss' 9.750 to take the rotation 48.050 to 46.850. CMU's Espinoza scored a 9.750 but it was not enough to over take Eastern as they held on for the 189.600 to 189.475 victory.
Fuss posted a 37.950 in the all-around, finishing behind Central Michigan's Jessica Neal who claimed the all-around championship with a score of 38.075. Worley was the only other Eagle who competed in the all-around, finishing with a total of 36.950.
The Eagles will remain at home next week Saturday, Feb. 18, as they will host the Huskies of Northern Illinois. The action gets underway at 4 p.m. in Warner Gymnasium.
