McKinney Named Preseason All-MAC

Lansing native earns preseason conference honor
YPSILANTI, Mich.-- Junior Patrice McKinney (Lansing, Mich./Everett/Michigan State) has been named one of five members on the 2006-07 Preseason All Mid-American Conference West Division women’s basketball team, as announced today by the league office. Voting was conducted among members of the MAC News Media Association and included five honorees from each division.
McKinney is coming off a sophomore campaign in which she garnered a second-team All-MAC nod. The Lansing, Mich. native averaged 8.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and finished ranked among the conference leaders in scoring, rebounds, assists, and assists-to-turnover ratio. McKinney scored in double figures 15 times in 2005-06, adding a team-high five double-doubles to her credit.
A transfer from Michigan State University, McKinney made heads turn throughout the conference last season. After struggling at the beginning of the season, she averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in league action. McKinney recorded double figures in rebounds seven times, including grabbing a career-best 17 at Ball State, Jan. 18.
McKinney joins Julie DeMuth from Ball State, Stephanie Raymond from Northern Illinois, Danielle Bishop of Toledo and Western Michigan’s Carrie Moore on the West Division team. Over on the East, the team is comprised of Buffalo’s Heather Turner, Ohio’s Rachel Frederick and a trio of Bowling Green players Kate Achter, Liz Honegger and Ali Mann. All 10 of the selections were named to one of the MAC’s postseason teams last year.
McKinney and the rest of the 2006-07 Eagles open the season Friday, Nov. 17, hosting New Orleans in the Sixth Annual Eagle Classic at the Convocation Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
