Junior cross country runner wins at Michigan Intercollegiate
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Eastern Michigan University junior women's cross country runner Kallie Williams (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter) was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 12 after winning the individual title at the Michigan Intercollegiate in Big Rapids, Mich., Oct. 6.
Williams, a transfer from the University of Michigan, captured the championship at the 4K Michigan Intercollegiate race in a time of 14:17.3, 25 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher. Williams bested 23 other runners from Western Michigan University, Central Michigan University and Detroit Mercy. She helped the Eagles turn in a second-place team finish in the race.
A junior majoring in special education, Williams has a 3.76 GPA.
Williams was also named MAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week Sept. 25 after winning the individual title at the Bronco Invitational Friday, Sept. 22.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete from the league who has a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the MAC's faculty athletic representatives.
