Scicluna Field, home to Eastern Michigan University's women’s soccer and lacrosse teams, has been a central hub for collegiate athletics since it opened in 1995. Named in honor of Paul Scicluna, the first head coach of the women’s soccer program, the facility carries his legacy after leading the Eagles to a 38-32-2 record, including an 11-5-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play in 1997 and 1998. Scicluna tragically passed away in 1999 during a recruiting trip, and the field was named in his honor to commemorate his contributions to EMU athletics.
The field has witnessed some of the program’s greatest achievements, serving as the home site for the 2009, 2011, and 2013 Mid-American Conference Women’s Soccer Regular Season Champions. Scicluna Field also hosted the 2013 MAC Tournament semifinals and championship match, establishing itself as a premier competitive venue in collegiate soccer. With a seating capacity of 700 and a full-size scoreboard, the facility provides an intimate yet vibrant environment for fans to experience top-level soccer.
Scicluna Field has also drawn international attention. In 2014, the pitch hosted Real Madrid for a summer training session, and in July 2017, Serie A club AS Roma trained at the facility for three days in preparation for a midweek match against Paris Saint-Germain at Comerica Park. These visits underscored the field's quality and its appeal to professional teams preparing for international competition.
EMU’s lacrosse program began using Scicluna Field in 2024, immediately achieving success with a 15-8 victory over Butler University in its first home contest on March 15. By 2025, the team claimed a share of the MAC championship in only its third year of competition, showcasing the field’s role in supporting emerging athletic programs.
Recent upgrades to Scicluna Field have significantly enhanced its functionality, technology, and fan experience. Between 2022 and 2023, the field received a complete turf replacement, expanded spectator seating, new backstops, upgraded power and data capabilities, and Eastern-branded tents for dedicated team benches equipped with lighting and heating. Shot clocks were installed to improve game management, and dedicated fiber for TV broadcast capabilities was added in 2024. The scoreboard graphics were updated in 2024, and a Spiideo camera system was installed to provide high-quality video capture for both training and broadcast purposes. These improvements ensure the field meets modern standards for both competition and media coverage.
