Sam Higgins begins her sixth season as an assistant coach for the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team, heading into the 2026 season.

Leading the beam lineup in 2022, Higgins coached freshman Ella Chemotti to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Regionals in the event with a Mid-American Conference leading 9.875 NQS. Chemotti was named to the conference’s first team for her efforts and scored a 9.900 at the Norman Regional. Furthermore, the beam squad saw five scores of 9.900 or higher, three of which were from Chemotti.

Taking over coaching responsibilities on beam in her first season, Higgins helped the beam squad finish 22nd in the nation, the team’s highest-ranked event. The new assistant coach also helped lead the team to its fourth Mid-American Conference Championship and third NCAA regionals team appearance in 2022. The team saw Jada Rondeau and Caitlin Satler earn Second Team All-MAC honors, and Satler collected the Co-Specialist of the Year award for her outstanding work on beam and floor.

Higgins worked as a volunteer coach for the Eagles over the previous three seasons. The Saline, Mich. native coached at the club level as a Team Coach for Gym America in Pittsfield Charter Twp., Mich. for 10 years.

Prior to coaching, Higgins earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Eastern Michigan in 2015 and was also a member of the rowing team.
