Entering his first year at EMU is Richard Hageman, who arrives Ypsilanti after spending the past football season at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Hageman serves as a defensive analyst for the program.

At CC, Hageman was in charge with overseeing a young, but talented running backs group in 2021. After All-American Mathew Burgess went down with a season ending injury in the Season opener, He guided Duncan Kraft to an All Conference Season. Kraft ran for 910 yards and eight touchdowns to pace Carroll's run game, which included four 100 yard games. Baxter Tuggle also carried the ball for 427 yards and six touchdowns, including an 80-yard touchdown run. He also handled all Scout Special Teams and Scout Defense duties as well as assisted Special Teams and the Offense with In-Game adjustments and play calling.

Before his stay at Carroll, Hageman joined the University of Wyoming’s staff in 2019 as a special teams quality control coach. There he broke down tendencies in the opposition’s special teams and prepare the coordinators for the weekend’s game.

From 2017-18, Hageman was a Defensive Quality Control assistant at Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois University. He assisted one of the top defenses in the nation with all defensive duties (game planning, film breakdown, personnel, scout teams, practice organization, etc.) as the Huskies qualified for two bowl game and won a MAC Championship.
 
The Huskies ranked 26th in the nation in total defense in 2017, leading the nation in tackles for loss (8.8) and ranking second in sacks (3.31) and fourth in defensive TDs (5). NIU ranked seventh nationally in yards per play allowed at just 4.52, trailing only Alabama, Clemson, Wisconsin, Washington, Ohio State and Michigan.

In 2018, the NIU defense ranked second in the country with a school-record 50 sacks. They were also ranked third in the country with 2.7 rushing yards per carry and had the MAC's best scoring defense with 20.6 points per game allowed. Back-to-back All-American defensive end Sutton Smith led the FBS in sacks with 15 and was second in the country with 24.5 TFLs. Smith and LB Antonio Jones-Davis also received All-MAC honors for their work on defense.

In the Spring of 2017, he was the Assistant Quarterbacks/Wide Receivers Coach for the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. Hageman also spent the 2016 season at the Tight Ends/Fullbacks Coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator for the University of Minnesota-Crookston.

Hageman began his coaching journey at Montana State University as a student assistant in the spring of 2014. He earned his bachelor's in History and Philosophy, Business Management from MSU in 2016 after picking up a degree in Sustainable Energy from Montana Tech in 2012. He was a wide receiver for the Orediggers at the NAIA level before transferring to Montana State to plat as a long snapper.
