Dennis Strey Jr. Named 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Nominee

Graduate student offensive lineman honored for leadership in community service

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University graduate student Dennis Strey Jr. (Paw Paw, Mich./Paw Paw) has been named a nominee for the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, recognizing college football student-athletes for leadership in community service, academics, and athletics.
Strey, a graduate student offensive lineman from Paw Paw, Mich., has built a strong record of service throughout his career at Eastern Michigan. Across four years, he has completed more than 85 hours of community service and has been a consistent presence at outreach events, youth programs, and service initiatives in the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor communities.
Strey joins an accomplished group of nominees from across college football as part of the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team class. This year's nominee group features 175 student-athletes and coaches from every level of college football, including 113 FBS players, 49 student-athletes from the FCS, Divisions II, III, and NAIA ranks, and 13 head coach nominees.
The 2026 class also includes the first female nominee in the program's 35-year history. Nominees represent conferences and programs nationwide, with the Big Ten leading all conferences with 21 selections, followed by the ACC with 16 nominees. The SEC and Big 12 each have 15 nominees.
A walk-on for the Eagles, Strey has also made an impact through personal generosity. He used his own money to purchase books for Eastern Michigan's annual spring game book drive, contributing more than 100 books. Teammates and staff have noted his consistent willingness to volunteer, including his habit of attending weekly service opportunities even when not assigned.
During the 2025-26 academic year, Strey logged 20 hours of service through programs including Foundations Preschool, Youth Day, Perry Elementary Field Day, Day of Reading at East Arbor Charter, YIES, Shop with a Cop, and Victory Day.
In 2024-25, he contributed 24.5 hours through Youth Day, Victory Day, Foundations Preschool, Erikson Elementary, Shop with a Cop, Perry Early Learning, and the YIES Science Fair.
In 2023-24, Strey added 18 hours of service through Foundations Preschool, Victory Day, Huron Valley PACE Nursing Home, Christian Love Fellowship Kitchen, Prodisee Food Pantry, and the Washtenaw County Park Cleanup.
In 2022-23, he logged 22.5 hours of service through Friends in Deed, Foundations Preschool, Albertson Foodbank, Huron Valley PACE Nursing Home, Victory Day, and Be a Model Man.
On the field, Strey appeared in nine games during the 2025 season and helped anchor an offensive line that allowed just 11 sacks, the sixth-fewest in the nation, while helping pave the way for 1,000-yard rusher Dontae McMillan. He earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2025 and 2024.
Strey earned his MBA from Eastern Michigan in December 2025.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association to recognize the extra efforts of college football players and student support staff off the field.
AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate began presenting the award in the 2008 season.
A voting panel of former Good Works Team members, head coaches and journalists will select the 23-man team in September. The team will be composed of 11 FBS players, 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II and III, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and one honorary head coach.
