YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Senior Day took center stage at Ford Lake as Eastern Michigan University rowing paid tribute to its senior class and delivered victories in the first 1,000 meters of each race against Dayton on Sunday, May 3. The regatta farewell for a group of seniors whose impact has shaped the program's direction heading into championship season.
The Eagles spotlighted their seniors after the regatta, including Madison Lisitsin (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest/La Salle), Taylor Meltzer, Lauren Tompkins (Delaware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes), Delani Fisher (Ellettsville, Ind./Bloomington North), Olivia Hansen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Skyline), Emily MacIntyre (Wyandotte, Mich./Theodore Roosevelt) and Julia Maxwell (Romulus, Mich./Romulus). This group has provided leadership and consistency throughout their careers, helping the Eagles prepare for a historic postseason.
Despite being the warmest home race of the season, high winds created tumultuous conditions on the lake, forcing the race format to be adjusted to two 1,000-meter sprints instead of the traditional 2,000-meter distance. Eastern Michigan set the tone early by winning the first 1,000 meters in the 1V4+, 2V8+, and 1V8+ races. Although results from the second 1,000 meters were unavailable, the fast starts underscored the Eagles' focus and drive on a day filled with nostalgia and pride.
The rivalry with Dayton has become a tradition at Ford Lake, with the two programs meeting in Ypsilanti each spring since 2021 and sharing a competitive history dating back to 2004. Sunday's regatta not only honored the seniors' legacy but also maintained EMU's strong efforts in this annual showdown, providing momentum ahead of the first-ever MAC Women's Rowing Championship.
