CHERRY HILL, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team captured a Varsity Four semi-final win and advanced the First Varsity Eight past the semi-finals at the Knecht Cup, April 11-12, on the Cooper River.
The Eagles placed fifth in the Varsity Four Grand final and posted their fastest Varsity Eight time of the spring, going head-to-head with a field featuring more than 70 programs, including fellow Mid-American Conference teams UMass and Delaware.
Eastern Michigan opened racing in a Varsity Four heat stacked with national and MAC opposition, advancing into the semi-finals and then cutting nearly 12 seconds for a 7:46.99 victory in that round. The Eagles delivered a gritty effort in the grand final, finishing fifth—matching one of the program's top recent performances at the event.
The Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in its heat in 7:20.67, which included formidable regional contenders.
The Varsity Eight advanced through three rounds and recorded a season-best 6:52.92 in the opening heat, closing the regatta with a third-place showing in Final 3. The opportunity to line up against MAC rivals UMass and Delaware gave EMU a valuable midseason benchmark with conference championship preparations on the horizon.
The Knecht Cup marked the Eagles' first and final road regatta of the spring and provided a key tune-up for the championship run ahead. For a full breakdown of the event and additional results, visit the Knecht Cup landing page. Fans can also watch a race preview video with Coach Kemp Savage.
